Nokia to Buy Symbian
Posted by: [jnolan] on 06-24-2008 @ 06:36 PM
Symbian
Nokia will pay $410 million for the remaining shares in UK-based Symbian and make its software royalty-free to boost phone sales and respond to new rivals such as Google.

Simian’s software is used in two-thirds of smartphones -- handsets with computer-like capabilities -- and 6 percent of all cellphones, but new platforms such as Google's Android and Apple's iPhone could challenge its dominance.

"The move's a shrewd response to growing threats from other providers of mobile phone software," said Geoff Blaber of UK-based research firm CCS Insight, citing the open-source LiMo Foundation...

Included are devices that can also stream YouTube videos right to your television screen (and DVR).

When at work...
Posted by: [michaelcrook] on 06-20-2008 @ 03:33 PM
General
If you think your data at work is completely private, think again. 1 out of 3 IT staffers admit to snooping on their co-workers, and that includes reading their e-mail, reading memos, and accessing other information that they have no direct need to read.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25263009/

It's a chilling reminder that we truly do not have privacy in the workplace, which is understandable as far as instant messaging and web usage goes. Just be aware that that little e-mail you sent to your girlfriend telling her what you'd like to do after work just may be passed around...

Now, Nokia has released the Bluetooth Speakers MD-7W, which come at a price of $179. If you're on the go, they run on 4 "AA" batteries, and are small enough to fit in a purse.
